HOn3 D&RGW 30-Foot Refrigerator Cars

Originally built by American Car & Foundry in 1908 and numbered 32 to 81, these 20-ton “short” reefers hauled perishables throughout the Colorado narrow gauge system until the late 1950s. This initial offering by Blackstone Models is based on the prototypes after they were rebuilt by the D&RGW in 1926 with new Murphy roofs, altered needle beams, and larger icebox hatches. Other model details include reporting marks, order placards, and herald placement specific to each road number.

These ready-to-run models are available with freshly shopped American Refrigerator Transit (ART) Yellow sides, and Boxcar Red roof and ends. They are also equipped with free-rolling 4' 8" arch bar trucks and Kadee® No. 714 couplers. In addition, these models include a cool new feature – a built-in speaker housing and openings in the underbody to accommodate the installation of a SoundTraxx® Tsunami® SoundCar® Digital Sound Decoder for rolling stock. A video demonstrating how to install the decoder is forthcoming and will be posted on the Blackstone Models website.

Blackstone Models also designed prototypical 4' 8" arch bar refrigerator car trucks, which are also available as an aftermarket accessory. These free-rolling trucks feature blackened metal wheels and details specific to refrigerator cars.
