Testing a new product from AK-Interactive, Acrylic Asphalt. I started by laying rail on a small piece of hardboard. The timbers were weathered and masked off to keep them from being plastered or painted over. Hydrocal was used to create a foundation fro my roadway, making sure not to fill the molds completely since the acrylic asphalt is thick. Although I used plaster, cardboard, cork or any other material would do the trick. Finally, using a small putty knife, I apply it over the road foundation and smooth out any rough spots. I also dip the knife into a cup of water to help level out any imperfections. I discovered that you can mix acrylic paint to the mixture and still see the texture. Adding white to the mixture will lighten up the surface which appears sun bleached and very realistic.
